Winter Skin Routine & Beef Tallow

Winter skin can feel brutal — tight cheeks, chapped lips, dry patches, and that uncomfortable “sting” when cold wind hits your face.
This winter, we travelled to Meribel, where the slopes are high and steep (around 2000ft above sea level). The winds were harsh and the air was extremely dry — the kind of climate that usually wrecks skin in just one day, especially for kids.
So I did what any mum would do: I packed our skincare like it was essential ski equipment.
What I Packed for My Kids (And Why It Ended Up Unused)
I equipped my kids with Barrier Dream Stick in their ski jacket pockets so they could reapply anytime — on the lift, during lunch, or after snow play.
But here’s the twist:
They didn’t even need to reapply.
Every morning before heading out, they applied it once over:
cheeks
around the nose
lips
under-eye area
And that was enough for the whole day.
Even with freezing winds at altitude, reapplication to the face and lips wasn’t necessary. No complaints of dryness, no cracked lips, no irritated cheeks.
Why Beef Tallow Works So Well for Winter Skin
The secret is in the ingredient: beef tallow.
Beef tallow is naturally rich and protective, and it supports the skin barrier especially well in climates that cause:
windburn
extreme dryness
eczema flare-ups
sensitive skin irritation
Instead of just moisturizing temporarily, beef tallow helps form a barrier that keeps skin calm and protected — exactly what you want when the weather is harsh.
A Simple Winter Skin Routine That Works
When it comes to cold weather skincare, less is more. Here’s what we followed:
✅ Keep the routine simple
✅ Apply before exposure to wind/cold
✅ Focus on cheeks + lips
✅ Use a barrier product that doesn’t sting
Barrier Dream Stick was made for exactly this kind of protection — gentle enough for kids, yet strong enough for winter conditions.
Final Thoughts
Meribel tested our skin properly — high altitude, dry air, harsh winds — and still, one application in the morning was enough.
I packed the Barrier Dream Stick in their ski jackets “just in case”…
and it ended up sitting there, unused.
And honestly? That’s the best kind of skincare product to have.
